WHAT IS REMOTE NOTARIZATION?

With remote notarization, a signer personally appears before the Notary at the time of the notarization over the internet instead of being physically present in the same room. Remote online notarization is also called webcam notarization, online notarization, or virtual notarization.

HOW DOES REMOTE ONLINE NOTARIZATION WORK?

These are the basic steps involved in a remote online notarization session:

  1. The customer sends or uploads the documents to be signed and notarized
  2. The customer completes the ID verification process approved by Florida
  3. The notary and customer join a video session
  4. The notary ensures the proper notarial wording and certificate is attached
  5. The notary administers the appropriate ceremony
  6. The customer signs
  7. The notary applies their electronic seal
  8. The notarization is recorded in a journal
  9. The video of the notarial act is saved

IS REMOTE ONLINE NOTARIZATION SAFE AND SECURE?

Yes, it is more secure than traditional paper notarizations and is designed to prevent identity fraud.

Each session is audio/video recorded. The session is retained for 10-years by an online platform which adheres to strict federal standards.  Every signer’s identification is analyzed for authenticity, and their identity is further authenticated using “Knowledge Based Authentication”, or KBA.
